To provide a method for heat-treating a carbo-nitriding treated member by which the surface hardness of a carbo-nitriding treated member such as a gear to be applied with sliding and facial pressure is made high, and its pitting resistance is made excellent.
As to the method for heat-treating a carbo-nitriding treated member excellent in pitting resistance, a member of steel having a composition containing, by weight, 0.10 to 0.35% C, 0.05 to 1.00% Si, 0.30 to 1.50% Mn, 0.005 to 0.030% S, 0.50 to 4.00% Cr and 0.02 to 0.60% Al, containing at need, one or two or more kinds among 0.05 to 3.00% Ni, 0.05 to 4.00% Mo, 0.05 to 1.00% V and 0.05 to 1.00% W, moreover containing, at need, 0.005 to 0.10% Nb, and the balance substantial Fe is carburized and carbo-nitrided or carbo- nitrided, is thereafter quenched and is tempered at 200 to 560°C.
