To provide a method for holding a polymer insulator and dies to be used therefor, which can make a long term strength degrading rate small, when a FRP core is joined with a metal fitting by means of compression using compression dies.
In a holding method where a FRP core 2 is inserted into the recessed part 1b of a metal fitting 1 having an open end 1a, and the metal fitting 1 is thereby compressed so as to be joined with the FRP core 2, out of the whole compression part L of the metal fitting 1, when the range of a part from the end part of the open end is assigned as a first range L1, and when a remaining range continued to the first range is assigned as a second range L2, the metal fitting is compressed so as to be joined in such a way that the quantity of deformation in the first range L1 is gradually increased as it goes to the second range L2. Besides, dies to be used for the execution of the holding method as described above, is formed out of a first compression surface having a first inclination with respect to a compressed surface, and of a second compression surface having a second inclination different from the first inclination.
