Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a catalyst capable of hydrogenating benzoic acid into corresponding benzaldehyde at a relatively low temp.

CONSTITUTION: This catalyst is obtained by coprecipitating a manganese salt, a salt from which an acidic carrier is formed, a zinc salt and an optional copper salt at pH 4-10, separating the precipitate, calcining at 300-700°C and optionally reducing with a hydrogen-containing gaseous mixture.
