To obtain information about an interchangeable lens connected to a camera, to overcome the problem of data transfer involving contact connection, and to obtain a more satisfactory image result based on expanded information about each interchangeable lens.
In the method for identifying an interchangeable lens, the interchangeable lens can be connected to the camera of a camera system via a placing face in a prescribed position by means of locking device. In addition, after locking, prescribed optical beams are oriented from two or more optical transmitters (18), advantageously six, disposed on the placing face, in the direction of a plurality of reflecting faces or absorbing faces (8) disposed according to the lock device (2). Beams returning from the corresponding reflecting faces/absorbing faces (8) are received by a plurality of optical receivers (19) disposed on the placing face (9). Binary coded signals are formed from output signals of the optical receivers in order to identify the interchangeable lens (1).
