Title:
METHOD FOR INHIBITING OXIDATION OF MOLTEN MAGNESIUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2002206121
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To solve the problem that, although the inside of a magnesium melting or melting and holding furnace is filled with gaseous mixture prepared by diluting gaseous sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) with air or gaseous carbon dioxide (CO2) in order to prevent the oxidation of magnesium in high-temperature state, gaseous sulfur hexafluoride exerts an adverse effect on the problem of global environmental warming because it has a global warming coefficient of 23,900 and an extremely high greenhouse effect as compared with the case of gaseous CO2 and there is an apprehension about its use.

In the oxidation inhibiting method, the inside 20 of the magnesium melting furnace or melting and holding furnace or a molten magnesium feed path 9 is filled with gaseous krypton or a gaseous mixture of gaseous krypton and air or gaseous carbon dioxide.
