To provide a method of initial phase adjustment of gravure rolls on an offset printing line which enables easy, correct and quick initial phase adjustment of each gravure roll.
Out of first and second printing machines P1 and P2 each equipped with the independently driven gravure roll G and an offset roll O, the first printing machine P1 is made a reference printing machine. A rotational angle of the gravure roll of the printing machine being an object of regulation at which a difference between a distance from the position of the origin of the gravure roll G of the reference machine to a contact of the offset O of the second machine P2 being the object of regulation with a backup roll B thereof and a distance from the position of the origin of the gravure roll G of the machine being the object of regulation to a contact of the offset roll O of this machine with the backup roll B thereof is an integral multiple of a gravure roll diameter, is calculated. After the primary phase adjustment wherein this gravure roll G is rotated by the rotational angle, the secondary phase adjustment wherein the gravure roll G is rotated again on the basis of the result of test printing is executed.
