PURPOSE: To provide a method for simply isolating an N-substituted 1- methylthio-2-nitroethene as a synthetic intermediate for medicines.
CONSTITUTION: A crude product of an N-substituted-1-methylthio-2- nitroethenamine of formula III containing 1,1-bis(methylthio)-2-nitroethene of formula I and a 1,1-bis(substituted-amino)-2-nitroethene of formula II (R is 1-4C alkyl or methylthioethyl containing a substituted heterocyclic group at the end) is treated with an acid (preferably hydrogen halide) in an organic solvent under an anhydrous condition. A precipitated salt is isolated and then is treated with an aqueous medium to isolate the high-purity compound of formula III. For example, a reaction product obtained by reacting a compound of formula 1 with an alkylamine may be cited as the crude product.
