PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of joining billets capable of preventing breaking of joined part in finish rolling being a post-process in continuous hot rolling.SOLUTION: The method of joining billets in continuous hot rolling is provided, including: a heating step of arranging a trailing end of a preceding billet 1a and a leading end of a succeeding billet 1b so as to oppose each other and in a non-contact state with each other in an entry side of a finishing rolling mill of a continuous hot milling line and induction-heating the trailing end of the preceding billet and the leading end of the succeeding billet; and a joining step of abutting the trailing end of the heated preceding billet against the leading end of the heated succeeding billet to pressure-join them. The joining method is performed in such a way that surfaces of the preceding billet and the succeeding billet from which the trailing end and the leading end are cut down respectively are applied with a nonorganic power to shut off the atmosphere to prevent oxidation of a component element of the billets which creates an oxide having a melting point higher than the melting point of the billets.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
