To provide a method for making a planographic printing plate causing no stain to the background of a print and capable of satisfactorily achieving improvement of printing resistance by burning treatment and to particularly provide a method for making a planographic printing plate from a positive- working IR sensitive planographic printing plate.

In the method for making the planographic printing plate, a positive-working IR sensitive planographic printing plate obtained by disposing an image forming layer containing an IR absorbing dye on a support having pits formed by electrolytic surface roughening with hydrochloric acid, wherein ≥60% by number of all the pits have 5-30 μm pit diameter, is exposed with IR, developed, washed and subjected to burning treatment without applying a surface conditioning liquid for burning.
