PURPOSE: To improve the equivalent resistance of a cylindrical quartz resonator upon formation of silver electrodes, by disposing a quartz resonator together with polishing abrasive in a cylinder having an inner wall diameter of R' which is 1/2 through 1/4 times as small as a radius of curvature R in the longitudinal direction of the quartz, and then by rotating the cylinder to polish the quartz so that the latter has a radius of curvature R' in its widthwise direction.
CONSTITUTION: A planoconvex quartz resonator 10 having, for example, a length of 8mm, a width of 2mm and a thickness of 0.5mm, are processed so that its curved surfaces 1a, 1b in the longitudinal direction of both principal surfaces are polished with a cylindrical diamond grind stone having a diameter of R (60mm). Then, the widthwise polishing thereof is made with the use of a cylinder 5 having a length of 150mm and an inner diameter of R' (15mm), into which one hundred, in number, of the resonators 10 are disposed together with carborundum abrasive to be rotatingly polished in the cylinder. As a result, the resonators 10 having radii of curvature 2c, 2d of R' (about 12mm through 15mm) in the widthwise direction may be formed. Thereafter, silver electrodes are formed on the resonator 10 by evaporation, and therefore, a cylindrical quartz resonator having a frequency of 3.5MHz±30kHz and an equivalent resistance of 15 through 30Ω, may be provided.
