To improve reliability while ensuring desired dielectric and temperature characteristics, even in the case of a thin dielectric ceramic layer having a thickness of ≤1.0 μm.
A method for manufacturing a dielectric ceramic comprises: preparing a BaTiO3 powder serving as an essential component, a Li compound that can be converted into Li2O by firing and a Ti compound that can be converted into TiO2 by firing; weighing and mixing prescribed amounts thereof so as to prepare a ceramic raw material powder; molding the ceramic raw material powder; and firing the same. The Li compound is added in an amount corresponding to 0.2-6.0 pts.mol in terms of Li2O after firing, based on 100 pts.mol essential component after firing. The Ti compound is added in an amount corresponding to 0.05-4.0 pts.mol in terms of TiO2 after firing, based on 100 pts.mol essential component after firing. As subsidiary components, a specific rare earth element oxide, a Mg compound, a Mn compound, a V compound, a Ba compound, a Ca compound and a Si compound may be optionally added in appropriate amounts. A portion of Ba may be optionally replaced by Ca and/or Sr, and a portion of Ti may be optionally replaced by Zr and/or Hf.
