To enable an iron source material containing Cr to be used for direct- reduced iron manufacture, reduce necessary energy in a downstream process (electric furnace, converter or the like), shorten time for direct reduction, and at the same time, to miniaturize a facility for manufacturing direct-reduced iron and reduce heat dissipation quantity.
In a method for manufacturing direct-reduced iron by reducing a Cr-containing raw material which is molded from a mixture including a powdery iron source material containing Cr and a powdery solid reducing agent, the method for manufacturing direct-reduced iron from the Cr-containing raw material is characterized by adding a material containing MgO to the Cr- containing raw material, and making mass% of MgO to be 2% to 15% to the mass of the Cr-containing raw material. The material containing MgO preferably includes scrap of a refractory (MgO-C).
