PURPOSE: To facilitate readily mounting of lead terminals at an electrode for a battery by eliminating adherence of binder to lead terminal mounting portion formed in recess under pressure when immersing binder liquid in spongy metal porous member filling active substance.
CONSTITUTION: The side edge of a long band-like spongy metal porous member 1 is pressed to form a recess lead terminal mounting portion 3. Paste active substance is filled into the porous member 1, and dried. Then, excessive active substance is removed from the porous member 1 filling the active substance, and flattened. In order to prevent the filled active substance from dropping from the porous member 1, binder liquid such as fluorine resin or the like is immersed with the porous member 1. Thus treated porous member 1 is then dried and cut into an electrode. When the binder liquid is immersed with the porous member by inserting the porous member 1 into a binder liquid tank 5, compressed air is blown from the nozzle of an atomizer 10 to the lead terminal mounting portion 3 to prevent the binder liquid from adhering thereto to expose it from the binder liquid surface. As another process, the porous member 1 may be twisted to be bent to expose the mounting portion 3 from the binder liquid surface.
