To provide a method for manufacturing a toner having excellent environmental stability of electrostatic properties, etc., by a simple process, with respect to a method for manufacturing toner by an inverse emulsification method.
The method for manufacturing an electrostatic charge image developing toner comprises a step of preparing a resin solution mixture by dissolving at least a resin convertible to a self-water-dispersible resin by neutralization and a colorant in a hydrophobic organic solvent, a step of neutralizing functional groups of the resin by mixing the resin solution mixture with a neutralizer, a step of generating colorant-containing particles in an aqueous medium by the inverse emulsification of the colorant dispersed resin solution mixture, a step of restoring surface functional groups of the colorant-containing particles generated in the aqueous medium to functional groups before neutralization, and a step of drying the treated colorant-containing particles after separation from the aqueous medium, wherein the step of restoring surface functional groups of the colorant-containing particles to functional groups before neutralization is carried out by treatment with an ion exchange resin. An electrostatic charge image developing toner usable for a high-definition image, having small particle diameter and narrow particle size distribution, and having superior transferability, fluidity, and environmental stability can be manufactured by such a simple process.
