Abstract:
To provide a method of manufacturing an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer capable of separating an acetate-based by-product from a mixture.SOLUTION: There is provided a method of manufacturing an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, the method including: manufacturing an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer in a first solvent; recovering unreacted ethylene; recovering unreacted vinyl acetate; introducing a second solvent different from the first solvent to manufacture an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer from the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer through transesterification; and separating the second solvent-derived acetic acid produced from the transesterification. The separating of the second solvent-derived acetic acid includes: recovering an azeotropic mixture of the second solvent-derived acetic acid, the first solvent and the second solvent; individually separating a first mixture of the first solvent and the second solvent, and a second mixture of the second solvent and the second solvent-derived acetic acid; separating the second solvent-derived acetic acid; the second solvent; and recovering a third mixture of the second solvent and the second solvent-derived acetic acid.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
