Abstract:

To efficiently manufacture steel containing nitrogen in high concentration without contamination of impurities in a short time.

In the process wherein steel is melted in a gaseous-nitrogen atmosphere by the use of a pressurized induction furnace to add nitrogen to the resultant molten steel from the atmosphere, a crucible used in the above pressurized induction furnace is constituted of a refractory having a composition consisting of CaO as a principal component with other inevitable impurities.
