To easily carry out a blanking operation after a hot press process in manufacturing a high-strength component using a hot press technique.
In a hot forming process, a heated steel plate 8 is formed so as to have the shape including a flange portion 22 to be gripped between an upper die 12 and a lower die 14, a corner portion 24, and a vertical wall portion 26 sandwiched between the side wall of a punch 20 and the inside of the forming bore of the upper die 14. In a die 10, a part of the portion for gripping the steel plate by means of the lower die 12 and the upper die 14 is provided with a heat insulating portion 18 to be composed of a material having a heat conductivity lower than that of the other portion of the die 10. The heat insulating portion 18 has an ability for transferring the heat of the steel plate 8 lower than that of other portions of the die 10 when the heated steel plate 8 is gripped. Therefore, the cooling speed of the steel plate 8 at that portion is slower than that at other portions, and as a result, the increase of the hardness due to the quenching phenomena can be suppressed. The portion having low hardness is used as the portion for the blanking operation.
