Title:
METHOD OF MANUFACTURING POLYGONAL THICK SHEET PORTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5226980
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1515967 Making paper tubes of polygonal cross-secion R L MARKHORST 4 Aug 1976 [23 Aug 1975] 32555/76 Heading B5A A cardboard tube of polygonal cross-section is made by reshaping a tubular blank upon an expansible mandrel. The blank may first be treated with liquid, and perhaps heat, to soften it. In a first embodiment, a tubular blank of circular cross-section is internally moistened by a water spray, heated by blown hot air, deformed to a rectangular cross-section by an expansible mandrel comprising two U-shaped members 1 and 2 movable away from each other, and finally cooled by cold air whilst supported by moving belts to stabilize it. In a second embodiment (see Fig. 2), blanks 3 travel on a belt 4 to an isolation device 5 which separates the leading blank from the rest. The separated blank is pushed by a ram 6 over a series of mandrels 7 supported on a disc rotatable about a shaft 7. The blanks are transferred to take-off conveyors 9 during which time the elements of the mandrels are moved to convert the blank to its desired polygonal cross-section.
