Abstract:

To provide a method of manufacturing a polymer containing an alicyclic structure with reduced amounts of volatile contents efficiently without lowering of the molecular weight.

The method uses a centrifugal thin-film evaporator which has a cylindrical body and a radial stirring blade with a rotation shaft at the center of the body; prepares a solution in this film form on the inner wall of the body and evaporates a solvent from the solution. The method has a process of polymerizing a monomer(s) containing the alicyclic structure in the solvent in the presence of a polymerization catalyst, optionally hydrogenating the resultant polymer and recovering the polymer from the reaction solution by the use of the evaporator. The evaporator has a bearing of the shaft in its lower part and uses the solution as lubricating liquid for the bearing.
