PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion battery, which is enhanced in cycle life characteristic.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion battery comprises the steps of: (S01) producing a nickel cobalt manganese complex hydroxide; (S02) preparing a first mixture by mixing the nickel cobalt manganese complex hydroxide with silicon carbide so that the mole ratio of the silicon carbide to the nickel cobalt manganese complex hydroxide becomes 0.1 to 0.5 mol%; (S03) preparing a second mixture by heating the first mixture at a first temperature; (S04) preparing a third mixture by mixing the second mixture with a lithium carbonate; and (S05) producing a silicon carbide-containing lithium nickel cobalt manganese composite oxide by heating the third mixture at a second temperature higher than the first temperature.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
