Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal ring of maraging alloy steel composition for a drive belt for a continuous variable transmission excellent in ductility and fatigue strength.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a metal ring 32 which is used with a drive belt 3 for a continuous variable transmission includes a step in which, by increasing circumferential length of an annular metal hoop 14, thickness of the hoop is decreased by 50% or less to form a ring by plastic deformation, and a step in which the ring is thermally treated to allow the material of the ring to be cured. After completion of a rolling step, a temperature of the ring is kept lower than 600°C for one or a plurality of remaining processes, in other words, a cold process effect of the material of the ring generated by the plastic deformation of the ring is not eliminated before the thermal treatment.
