Abstract:

To provide a catalyst which can be used in such a reaction that a hydroperoxide is reacted with an olefinic compound to obtain an oxirane compound and which can exhibit high activity and selectivity.

A method for manufacturing the catalyst which satisfies the following conditions (1) to (4) is provided, (1) this catalyst has ≥10 average pore size, (2) pores accounting for ≥90% of the total pore volume have 5-200 pore size, (3) this catalyst has ≥0.2 cm3/g specific pore volume, and (4) a silicon compound (an organic silica source) whose hydrocarbon group is bonded directly to a silicon atom and an inorganic silica source having no carbon-silicon bond are used as a silica source, and the method comprises a first step of mixing/agitating the silica source, a titanium source and a template in a solvent to obtain a solid containing catalyst components and the template so that the relational expression: (the amount of the organic silica source to be added in the first half)>(the amount of the organic silica source to be added in the second half) is satisfied when the silica source is added to a solution of the template and a second step of removing the template from the solid obtained at the first step.
