To improve a method for manufacturing machine parts of a wire rod of a ferritic stainless steel by cold forging, and to provide a method for manufacturing the wire rod, which can immediately switch over rolling to the steps of skin-passing /cold-forging.
This method for manufacturing the wire rod comprises supplying a steel slab to a rolling mill at 900 to 1,300°C, and rolling it while controlling the temperature of the material at 850 to 1,200°C during rough rolling and at 850 to 1,000°C during finish rolling. Alternatively, the method for manufacturing the wire rod comprises supplying the steel slab to the rolling mill at 600°C or higher but lower than 900°C, rolling it so that the temperature of the material can be 700 to 800°C during rough rolling and can be 650 to 800°C during finish rolling, then, with the use of afterheat, further heating it to 550 to 950°C for 1 minute to 8 hours, to acquire a soft structure consisting of ferrite grains with sizes of 80 μm or less and having hardness of HV < 160 + 406 [carbon content]. The method for manufacturing the material for cold forging is characterized by skin-passing the obtained material having " the soft structure with fine grains".
