Abstract:
To provide a method for measuring the characteristics of a water jet (WJ) which can check whether desired cutting ability can be obtained by the WJ jetted from a nozzle onto an object to be cut; and to provide a water-jet cutting method by which the WJ having the desired cutting ability can be efficiently obtained at a cutting work place.SOLUTION: A WJ is jetted onto a pressure receiving plate 3 equipped with a load cell 4 and an AE sensor 5, (1) it is determined, from a load measured by the load cell 4, whether the jet force of the WJ is equal to or greater than a prescribed value, (2) on the basis of whether the AE sensor 5 gives discrete measurement signals, it is determined whether the WJ colliding against the pressure receiving plate 3 is in a liquid droplet flow region 13, and it is checked whether desired cutting ability can be obtained by the WJ jetted onto an object to be cut. The characteristics of the WJ are measured at a cutting work place, and cutting by the WJ is performed after it is confirmed that the jet force of the WJ is equal to or greater than the prescribed value, and that the WJ collides against the pressure receiving plate in the liquid droplet flow region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
