To provide a method for melting a cold iron source and its melting facility with which the cold iron source can be preheated without needing a preheating chamber and molten iron temperature at tapping time of the molten iron can be controlled.
The cold iron source melting facility 1 is provided with a cold iron source charging hole 3, a melting chamber 2 provided with a pilded-up part 2c at the bottom part just below this cold iron source charging hole, electrodes 7, 8 for generating arc for melting the cold iron source 18 in the melting chamber and a cold iron source supplying means 17 continuously and intermittently supplying the cold iron source into the melting chamber so that the cold iron source always holds the existing state in the piled-up part. In this cold iron source melting facility, tapping off the molten iron 19 while the cold iron source exists in the piled-up part, the piled-up part has the height, that the molten iron does not reach even in the case of melting a prescribed quantity of molten iron in the melting chamber.
