Abstract:

To enable a stable operation without causing bow out of exhaust gas from a melting room, by ensuring outgassing in a preheating room, when producing a molten metal by blending directly reduced iron at a high blending rate of 50% or more, in an arc melting facility having a preheating room directly connected with the melting room.

This method for melting a cold iron source 16 in the melting room 3, which has been preheated in the preheating room 4 with an effluent gas discharged from the melting room, by using an arc melting facility 1 having the melting room and the shaft-type preheating room 4 directly connected with the upper part of the melting room, is characterized by employing the cold iron source which is blended with directly reduced iron so as to be 50-80 mass%, by melting the cold iron source in the melting room with an arc 19, and by supplying charcoal material and oxygen to the melting room, while supplying the cold iron source to the preheating room in order that the cold iron source exists in both the melting room and the preheating room; and by tapping the molten metal while leaving the cold iron source in the melting room and the preheating room, when a predetermined quantity of the molten metal 17 has been collected in the melting room.
