To provide a melting method of cold iron source which of viates necessity of a device for carrying and supplying the cold iron source into a melting chamber and can preheat the cold iron source in the following charge and can melt the cold iron source with such an extremely high efficiency as not be obtained in the conven tional melting equipment and can prevent the development of harmful component without needing a large scaled equipment, and a melting equipment thereof.
In melting the cold iron source by using a melting furnace 1 and an arc-melting equipment having a preheating shaft 2 directly connected with the upper part of the melting furnace, the cold iron source 3 in the melting furnace 1 is melt with the arc 7 while supplying the cold iron source 3 into the preheating shaft 2. Oxygen-containing gas is supplied into the cold iron source charging part from gas introducing holes 16 formed into plural steps to burn unburning gas produced from the melting furnace 1. The oxygen-containing gas quantity and the positions of the gas introducing holes 16 are adjusted so that the temp. at near the outlet of exhaust gas in the preheating shaft becomes a prescribed temp. or higher and thereafter, the exhaust gas is quickly cooled at a cooling part 21 connected with the upper part of the preheating shaft 2.
