Title:
METHOD FOR MELTING COPPER OR COPPER ALLOY SCRAP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04120222
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To remove slag as impurities in copper or copper allay scrap, at the time of melting the copper or copper alloy scrap, by oxidizing the impurities of Pb, Sn and Fe in a molten metal and thereafter blowing other oxides therein.

CONSTITUTION: Copper or copper allay scrap contg. one or more kinds among Pb, Sn and Fe is subjected to atmospheric melting as a part or the whole of a raw material. The oxygen concn. of the above molten metal is regulated to 3000 to 30000ppm to oxidize Pb, Sn and Fe. Next, other oxide powder, 10 to 10000ppm of the weight of the molten metal, is blown in the molten metal by using a carrier gas to form slag including the oxides of Pb, Sn and Fe. This slag is floated up and separated away, and after that, reducing treatment and casting are executed. In this way, the impurities of Pb, Sn and Fe included in copper or copper alloy scrap can effectively be removed in the process of melting.
