To provide a method for modifying hair with which excellent tenseness and stiffness can be imparted to hair fibers, especially hair without tenseness and stiffness in a short time.
The method for modifying the hair is carried out as follows. A hair-treating agent (A1) comprising an alkoxysilane represented by general formula (1): R1pSi(OR2)4-p [wherein, R1 and R2 denote each a 1-6C alkyl group or a 2-6C alkenyl group; and p denotes an integer of 0-3], an organic acid and water as constituent elements is stirred and mixed. The alkoxysilane is hydrolyzed and converted into a silanol compound represented by general formula (2): R1pSi(OH)n(OR2)4-p-n [wherein, n denotes an integer of ≥1 to ≤(4-p)]. The resultant hair-treating agent (A2) is applied to the hair and permeated. An acidic aqueous solution (Ba) providing pH 1-4 when the acidic aqueous solution (Ba) is mixed with the hair-treating agent (A2) in 1:1 weight ratio or an alkaline aqueous solution (Bb) providing pH 8-12 when the alkaline aqueous solution (Bb) is mixed with the hair-treating agent (A2) in 1:1 weight ratio as a polymerization promoter is then applied to the hair. A hair modifying agent is composed of the hair-treating agent and the polymerization promoter.
