To provide a method for modifying the surface quality of a wood material which does not require strong compression and high temperature treatment without fear about shape restoration and also requires no special device under a safe operation and requires a low manufacturing cost as well as a wood material with a modified surface quality.
This method for modifying the surface performance quality of a wood material is to disperse water in a thermoplastic polymer such as polyurethane or polyester having 100% or less degree of film elongation at normal temperatures and 85°C or higher fluidization start temperature, and immerse a wood material such as timber, plywood or fiberboard in the polymer/ water mixture. Alternatively the method is to apply, spray or inject the mixture into the wood material, then dry and deform it by compression using a heat roll press or a flat platen hot press.
