To provide realization of water saving by controlling wasteful consumption of water.SOLUTION: The operation method of a pure water production apparatus 1 includes the steps of sequentially treating the water to be treated to produce pure water, and storing the produced pure water in a pure water tank 5. The step of producing the pure water includes the steps of passing water to be treated to a membrane filtration device 3 having a reverse osmosis membrane or a nanofiltration membrane, separating it into permeated water and concentrated water, and discharging the separated concentrated water to the outside. In the step of storing pure water, at least a portion of the manufactured pure water is supplied to the upstream side of the membrane filtration device 3 according to the amount of pure water used from the pure water tank 5 to the use point 6 to be returned. The step of returning the pure water includes adjusting the storage amount of pure water stored in the pure water tank 5, and the step of discharging the concentrated water causes at least a part of the pure water to be returned to the upstream side of the membrane filtration device 3. By returning at least a part of the separated concentrated water to the upstream side of the membrane filtration device 3 in conjunction with the adjustment, it is included to adjust the drainage amount of the concentrated water discharged to the outside.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
