PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selective oxidation process for sulfur compounds included in organic compounds, particularly dibenzothiophenes.
SOLUTION: Organic sulfur compounds included in organic compounds are oxidized with oxygen or oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a photosensitization catalyst under irradiation with light to convert the sulfur compounds to the organic sulfur oxide compounds.
