To provide a method for producing cumene hydroperoxide in a high yield, wherein the method comprises using a bubble column reactor and oxidizing cumene with an oxygen-containing gas.
This method for oxidizing cumene to obtain the cumene hydroperoxide comprises using the bubble column reactor and oxidizing the cumene with the oxygen-containing gas and is characterized in that the superficial velocity of the oxygen-containing gas supplied to the reactor is ≥0.02 m/sec but ≤0.1 m/sec in the reactor. Preferably, the method includes a step in which the reaction liquid containing the generated cumene hydroperoxide is reacted with propylene to obtain propylene hydroperoxide and cumyl alcohol, the cumyl alcohol is converted into cumene by hydrocracking reaction and the obtained cumene is recycled to the bubble column reactor.
