To provide a method for oxidizing an organic compound, capable of oxidizing the organic compound having an olefinic carbon-carbon double bond in an industrially advantageous manner.
This method for oxidizing the organic compound comprises reacting the organic compound having the olefinic carbon-carbon double bond with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a metallic oxide catalyst which is formed by reacting at least one kind of metallic compound with hydrogen peroxide, wherein the metallic compound is selected form the group consisting of tungsten metal, molybdenum metal, a tungsten compound comprising tungsten and an element of the IIIb, IVb, Vb or VIb group except oxygen, and a molybdenum compound comprising molybdenum and the element of the IIIb, IVb, Vb or VIb group except oxygen.
