Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an aliphatic-aromatic polycarbonate resin having excellent fluidity and flexibility and providing complex molded products with high accuracy by reacting an oligocarbonate of diphenol having chlorocarbonic acid ester terminal groups with an aliphatic diol in a non-aqueous solvent.

CONSTITUTION: An aliphatic-aromatic polycarbonate resin having a combination of excellent fluidity and flexibility and producing complex molded products with high accuracy is prepared by reacting an oligocarbonate of diphenol having chlorocarbonic acid ester terminal groups prepared by reacting diphenol [e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane] and phosgene with an aliphatic diol (e.g. 1,6- hexanediol) in a non-aqueous solvent (e.g. mesitylene) in the presence of tributylamine at 160 to 170°C for eight hours. The amount of solvent is such that the oligocarbonate is about 10 to 40% relative to the total wt. of solvent, oligocarbonate and diol.
