To provide a simple method for preparing a reaction mixture containing a compound of formula (1), at reasonable cost. AzxArFwCl(y-w)Rz (1) [wherein Az is a group of F, Cl, Br, NO2, CN, CF3, CCl3, CHO, CO(CnH2n+1) (n is an integer of 1-10), COX or SO2X (X is F, Cl or Br); x is 1-3; Ar is phenyl, pyridyl or naphthyl; w is 1 to y; y is 1-5; R is H, a 1-10C alkyl or a 1-10C alkoxy; z is 1-5; (x+y+z) is the total substitutable valence of Ar].
This method comprises adding water to a reaction mixture and separating water therefrom wherein the reaction mixture is obtained by reacting a compound of the formula: AzxArC1yRz with an alkali metal fluoride at 50-250°C in the presence of a quaternary ammonium compound including the group: (CmH2mO)pR5 as a catalyst or in the presence of a mixture of the same compound and at least one selected from an amidophosphonium salt, a quaternary ammonium compound, a quaternary phosphonium compound or an ether.
