PURPOSE: To improve producibility and yield and to automatize a spot welding to save manpower by controlling the current and/or pressing force in the spot welding of foil brazing filler metals in the preceding stage based on the detection signal of the spring-out of the brazing filler metal from an outer cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: An outer cylinder is set at the tip of a rotary arm 4 at the intake position C of the arm 4 and moved to a press-in position A. A honeycomb body obtained by spot-welding foils under definite optimum welding conditions is pressed into the outer cylinder at the position A, and the cylinder is turned again to position C. In this case, the spring-out of the foil brazing filler metal on the upper face of a carrier 5 is detected at a position B by a sensor 6. When the foil is sprung out, the detection signal is fed back to the current control part of spot welding in the preceding stage, the current is automatically controlled to a preset value, the pressing force is slightly increased, and the spring- out is prevented.
