To provide the method for processing the photosensitive material by using an ascorbic acid developing agent, prevented from deterioration of development activity and abrupt drop of pH by incorporating a specified compound in the developing solution.

The developing solution to be used for the photosensitive material contains the ascorbic acid developing agent containing at least one of the compounds represented by formula I in which A is a hydroxy or amino group, preferably, a hydroxy group; each of R1 and R2 may combine with each other to form a 5- or 6-membered ring together with the combining carbon atom, or one of them is an H atom and the other is an H atom or a ≤10C alkyl, aryl, or a hydroxy group or a group of formula II; (l) is 2 or 3; (n) is an integer of 0-8; M is an H atom or a cation of K, Na, or ammonium, or the like; and in formula II, (l) is same as in formula I.
