Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a 3-sulfanylphenol compound from general-purpose raw materials safely, efficiently and industrially advantageously.
The method for producing, for example, 3-methylsulfanylphenol comprises reacting a cyclic ,-unsaturated ketone compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein R1-R4 are each, for example, a hydrogen atom; and R5 is, for example, a methyl group) with a carboxylic acid anhydride and sulfuric acid to aromatize the cyclic ,-unsaturated ketone compound and hydrolyzing the aromatized compound.
