Abstract:
To provide methods for producing economically and efficiently 3,7-dimethyl pentadecane and 3,7-dimethyl tetradecane.MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEM: A method for producing a 3,7-dimethyl alkane compound (3) includes at least a step for causing a coupling reaction to occur between a 2,6-dimethyl octyl nucleophilic reagent represented by a general formula (1) (where M1 is Li, MgZ1, CuZ1 or CuLiZ1, where, Z1 is a halogen atom or a 2,6-dimethyl octyl group) and an alkyl electrophilic reagent represented by a general formula (2) (where X1 is a halogen atom or a p-toluene sulfonate group, and n is 5 or 6), yielding a 3,7-dimethyl alkane compound represented by a following formula (3) (where n is as defined above).SELECTED DRAWING: None
