To provide a method for producing an acetoxymethylbiphenyl compound by an oxidative esterification reaction from raw materials consisting essentially of a dimethylbiphenyl compound and acetic acid, by which the deposition of the unreacted dimethylbiphenyl compound can be prevented in a process after the reaction to produce the acetoxymethylbiphenyl compound without causing a trouble due to the deposition of the dimethylbiphenyl in the production process.
This method for producing the acetoxymethylbiphenyl compound by the oxidative esterification reaction from the raw materials consisting essentially of the dimethylbiphenyl compound and the acetic acid in the presence of molecular oxygen is characterized by satisfying expressions : 1≤a<25 and [(25-a)/24]×100≤b≤100, wherein (a) is the acetic acid / dimethylbiphenyl compound molar ratio of the raw materials; (b) is the conversion (mol. %) of the dimethylbiphenyl compound.
