Abstract:

To solve the problem in the production of an α-monobranched saturated aliphatic carboxylic glycidyl ester that the product yield per batch reduces because epihalohydrin is excessively used and remains together a the solvent in the reaction system and many kinds of side-reactions derived from the epihalohydrin occur, when the dehydrohalogenation reaction is carried out.

The α-monobranched saturated aliphatic carboxylic glycidyl ester is produced by ring-opening reaction between α-monobranched saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid and epihalohydrin in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt catalyst to form an α-monobranched saturated aliphatic carboxylic halohydrin ester and by ring-closing reaction of the halohydrin ester by using a dehydrohalogenation agent. To the process, are added the following steps (1) and (2): (1) the ring-opening reaction product is distilled under reduced pressure to remove the excessively used epihalohydrin, before the product is treated with the dehydrohalogenation agent, (2) the quaternary ammonium salt catalyst and the salt byproducts in the ring-closing reaction are removed from the ring-closing reaction product.
