Abstract:

To provide a method for producing a high purity alkyl ketene dimer having a reduced amount of impurities in the absence of an organic solvent in a good yield.

In the method for producing the alkyl ketene dimer by reacting a fatty acid chloride with a tertiary amine mixture in the absence of an organic solvent, the tertiary amine mixture is constituted by mixing triethylamine with a tertiary amine represented by formula (1) (wherein R is a 3-14C hydrocarbon group) at a molar ratio of 3/2 to 19/1 and 1-1.15 mol tertiary amine mixture per mol fatty acid chloride is used.
