Abstract:
A process for the preparation of beta -amino alcohols in syn configuration as represented by the general formula (2): R>ab<)-R>c< [wherein R>a< and R>c< are each optionally substituted alkyl or the like; R>b< is a group selected from among those represented by the formulae (3) to (6): (3)R?1>CO(R<2>)N-, (4)R<1>CO(R<1'>CO)N-, (5)R<1>SO2(R<2>)N-, and (6)R<1>R<2>N- (wherein R<1>, R<1'>, and R<2> are each optionally substituted alkyl or the like); and C* represents an asymmetric carbon atom], which comprises reacting an a-aminocarbonyl compound of the general formula (1): Ra-CO-CH(Rb)-Rc with hydrogen or a hydrogen donor in the presence of a transition metal compound and a base.
