Abstract:
To provide a method for producing GABA to be a raw material for 2-pyrrolidone, polyamide 4, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and polyvinylpyrrolidone with high efficiency without using petroleum.
The method for producing the GABA includes a step of reacting glutamic acid and/or a glutamate with a microorganism or an enzyme solution prepared by crushing the microorganism in a mixed solution of the glutamic acid and/or glutamate with water, and producing the GABA. In the method, the initial concentration of the glutamic acid and/or glutamate in the reaction solution is not less than 50 wt.%.
