Abstract:

To provide a method for stably producing a high-viscosity emulsion in a method for producing an aqueous emulsion of an ethylene-vinyl acetate-based copolymer, with which a redox type catalyst using an erythorbic acid and/or an ascorbic acid not generating formalin as a reducing agent is utilized.

In the method for producing an aqueous emulsion of an ethylene-vinyl acetate-based copolymer, with which a redox type catalyst comprising an oxidizing agent, a reducing agent and a transition metal salt is used, an erythorbic acid and/or an ascorbic acid is used as the reducing agent, 0.02-0.05 part wt. based on vinyl acetate of the reducing agent is previously added to a polymerization system before the beginning of polymerization, then the oxidizing agent and the reducing agent are successively added.
