To provide a method for producing an aromatic alcohol which includes the following excellent characteristics: an undesirable reaction due to excessive catalytic activity at the beginning of catalyst use is suppressed; the degradation of reaction conversion rate or selection rate due to the degradation of catalytic activity in operation is reduced; and therefore the continuous reaction is effectively implemented.
In the method for producing an aromatic alcohol, an aromatic peroxide-including liquid and a hydrogen-including gas are continuously supplied to a reaction vessel wherein a powdery or granular catalyst supporting a noble metal is suspended, thus obtaining a reaction liquid including an aromatic alcohol. In the method, the reaction and the extraction of the reaction liquid are continuously performed; and when the activity of a catalyst descends to a predetermined level, an additional catalyst is added to the reaction liquid without stopping the reaction and the extraction of the reaction liquid.
