Abstract:
To provide a method for producing an aromatic compound dimer in high yield at a low cost.
This method for producing an aromatic compound dimer comprises the step of oxidative coupling reaction of an aromatic compound of the general formula I: Ar-OH [Ar is a (substituted) aromatic group] in the presence of a copper salt in a nitrogen-containing polar solvent. As a specific example, a compound of formula 12 is obtained by heating 2,6-di-t-butylphenol in the presence of cuprous chloride in an N,N-dimethylformamide solvent while blowing air into the reaction system.
