To provide a method that chemically synthesizes asparaptine readily and efficiently, and an asparagus acid ester compound useful for the method.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method for producing asparaptine (chemical name: (2S)-2-[(1,2-dithiolane-4-ylcarbonyl)amino]-5-guanidinopentanoic acid) or a salt thereof, by condensing L-arginine with asparagus acid ester represented by the formula (1) or a salt thereof in an aqueous solvent.SELECTED DRAWING: None
