To provide a method for producing a biaxially oriented film which can produce the quality film which is excellent in smoothness and free from defects such as an orange skin in a method in which a sheet obtained by using a cooling roll having a micro-crack surface is biaxially oriented.

In the method for producing the biaxially oriented film in which a molten polymer is extruded from an orifice-shaped nozzle into a sheet, the sheet is contacted closely with the micro-crack surface of the cooling roll and solidified into an unoriented sheet, and the unoriented sheet is biaxially oriented in both longitudinal and transverse directions, the take-up speed of the biaxially oriented film is adjusted at 250-1,500 m/min.
